Hitchcock Trophy 2018 Rules


This competition is designed to give an opportunity to be involved in a match play competition.

The junior must be under 18 on the 1st January 2018.

The player must have a CONGU Competition handicap between 18.5 and 35.4 at entry to the competition. If they subsequently reduce their handicap below 18.5 they may continue to play off their new current handicap.

The closing date for entering the competition is 25th January 2018.

The competition will be singles match-play; full difference between handicaps of players.

Each round is drawn as soon as possible after the completion of the previous round. The first name drawn plays at home. The games are played to a completion. 

The draw will be published on the website (  The Hitchcock Trophy Organiser will notify all players of all rounds by email.  The home player should contact their opponent as soon as possible to arrange a date for the match.  If no contact has been made after a few days, the away player should telephone their opponent with some dates. It is a joint responsibility to arrange a date for the match.  The home player should advise the Hitchcock Trophy organiser of the arranged date.

If the players can only find a date on which both players can play when the home course is not available, the Hitchcock Trophy Organiser may rule that the match should be played at the away player’s course.

No extensions will be granted.

The winner should contact the Hitchcock Trophy Organiser, as soon as possible after the match has been played to inform her of the result.

Players should always have their handicap certificates available to show to their opponent.

No caddies are allowed in this competition.

Use of Distance Measuring Devices (DMDs) is permitted.  Please note mobile phone DMD applications are not permitted.

The semi-finals will be played on neutral courses.  A period of at least 4 weeks will be given for the semi-finals to be played.  Players A v B will play at C or D’s Club; Players C v D will play at A or B’s Club.  All entrants must be confident their course will be made available for the semi-finals.

The final will be played on a neutral course on 24th August, 2018 – all competitors should note this date and keep it free until they are knocked out of the competition.
