MESSAGE FROM THE COUNTY CAPTAIN

Message from the County Captain

Well, here we are, days away from Spring and yet almost every course in the county is currently closed and submerged under flood water after the wettest February on record. I can count on one hand the number of rounds I have played this year, three to be exact and they were in pretty soggy conditions.

So, what to do in these circumstances.  Planning for the spring and summer, booking your county knockouts, county opens, club opens and, of course, practising. Our driving range has never been so busy and I have become an excellent putter on carpet in my hallway, although I may struggle when I get back onto the actual greens.

The management team have been busy planning for the start of the season. The Knockouts are now closed for entry and the draws made. Inter-club competitions start in early April, so make sure that your team members have 12 scores on their WHS record. 12 scores in the last 365 days is the requirement and these can be either competition or general play, 18 or 9 holes.

Josie our county secretary has been busy organising the county championships, which are being held at Rochford Hundred on 17th – 19th May. Entry is still open for both the seniors and main championship; your Lady Captain has been sent a list of all who are eligible to take part from your club.

Anne is keeping the website refreshed as well as all of our social media outlets. She is keen to receive news updates from the clubs in the county, so please share your news by emailing annesgolf@yahoo.com.

Kate has added two pages to our website, to assist you in attracting new members and writing your women in golf charter. If you have not read these yet, please do, they contain really useful information on how to grow your membership and get to grips with the charter.

Junior coaching starts in mid-March and we have another excellent uptake for all categories, this is such an important part of county golf, our juniors are our future, and it is always a pleasure to monitor their progress each year.

My fingers are firmly crossed that we get a prolonged period of dry weather as we enter March, so that we can all get back on the course, regain our fitness and sharpen our game. So, I wish you all happy golfing, eventually!

Best wishes

Elaine
